FORT PLAIN Vintage quilt raffle to benefit library A quilt pattern reflecting what National Quilt Museum Curator Judy Schwender has described as the desire for beauty using the language of flowers was the inspiration for a vintage hand-stitched quilt that the Fort Plain Free Library is raffling to raise money for ongoing repairs and improvements to the more than 100-year-old Greek Revival structure. The building sustained extensive damage during a devastating flood in 2013. The traveling Carolina Lily block quilt will be on display through Friday, at the Fort Plain branch of NBT Bank, 41 Canal St. This vintage quilt, handcrafted with the Carolina Lily design and passed down to Palatine history buff Willis Skip Barsheid by his aunt and finished by local Amish quilters, is the first-place prize in the raffle. The second-place raffle prize is a four-foot by four-foot quilt barn square based on the design and colors of the vintage quilt, created by a local resident.
